Westfall and Shohola Townships Benefit From Upper Delaware Council Grants

NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) presented checks for $12,123.09 to Westfall Township and $5,000 to Shohola Township to mark their completion of projects under two grant programs.

Westfall’s funding came out of the UDC’s “Townships, Technology & Sustainability” $100,000 grant secured for the Council by Pennsylvania Representatives Jonathan Fritz, Rep. Mike Peifer, and Senator Lisa Baker.

The UDC decided to share the proceeds of the grant administered by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development with its five PA member municipalities.

The Westfall Township Board of Supervisors opted to resurface and pave the 8,427 square foot parking lot at the Township Municipal Building property located at 102 LaBarr Lane in Matamoras.

This improvement project also accommodated the Dec. 10, 2019 relocation of the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department into the township facility’s lower level.

Work was accomplished by Warner Paving and Excavating of Milford, PA.

The UDC reimbursed the township for the expense on June 23. Damascus, Berlin, Lackawaxen, and Shohola Townships will also benefit from shares of the PA Grant, which has a completion deadline of December 31, 2021.

Shohola Township, PA finalized an update of Zoning Ordinance #79 that had been awarded under the UDC’s Fiscal Year 2019 Technical Assistance Grants program.

A payment of $5,000 was approved on July 28.

The volunteer members of the Shohola Township Planning Commission worked with Solicitor Jason Ohliger and Secretary Diana Blume to review areas of the 2016 ordinance that needed clarification and to propose the incorporation of any new or unanticipated uses.

With the proposed update completed, Zoning Ordinance #79 now goes to the Shohola Township Board of Supervisors for adoption.

Since its 1988 inception through its 2020 projects which are due to wrap up by August 28, the UDC has awarded a cumulative total of $891,952 to fund 257 projects through the TAG program. The planning-oriented grants are available competitively to the UDC’s 13 member towns and townships, and five encompassing county governments in NY and PA.
