VetStock honored amputee Vet with custom bike
GREELEY - An Army veteran who lost most of his right leg in Afghanistan received a special tribute from VetStock during Heroes Day October 8.
Lyndon Sampang took official ownership of a custom-built motorcycle and was escorted by fellow vets from Gettysburg to Greeley, a 203-mile trip.
“I am beyond humbled and excited to be the recipient of such an unselfish act,” said Sampang, “I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was 13 years old, but I never thought I’d be able to ride again. Thank you, VetStock!”
Combat Hero Bike Build, like the Pike County-based VetStock is focused on providing support to veterans. Headquartered in Colorado, Combat Hero Bike Build builds, rebuilds or modifies motorcycles to give wounded veterans the chance to enjoy the “freedom of riding that many of us take for granted.”
“Our members understand the need to get our injured veterans back to as normal a life as possible,” said VetStock Co-Founder Tom Ryan. “The mission with Hero Bike Build does exactly that, and we are honored and excited to be able to do this thanks to VetStock sponsors and supporters.”
Sampang served in the Army, SGT-E5, 10 years NG and Active Duty. On March 18, 2010 while serving in Yayah khel Patika Province, Afghanistan, he suffered the loss of his right leg from the knee down.

About Combat Hero Bike Build Program
Combat Hero Bike Build, headquartered in Colorado, recognizes the personal sacrifices veterans have made for our country. Its mission is to develop and implement projects that serve veterans and their families.
Many warriors come home with both mental and physical disabilities. For some, due to the nature of the injuries, it can be extremely life altering. Motorcycling requires both a mental and physical commitment that promotes the individual’s ability to overcome their newest challenges to experience life as it is meant to be. This program takes the warrior past the “thank you for your service” and enables them to show others and themselves that nothing can stop the person who wants to move on.
The motorcycle is long associated with freedom and adventure. Many ride for the sense of freedom, many for the sense of adventure, or a chance to be free from the day-to-day stress of life or all of the above. Many of our wounded are experienced “bikers” but now have injuries that limit their ability to be free. By building, rebuilding, or modifying existing bikes to accommodate their physical needs, Combat Hero Bike Build can help get them back mentally to where they need and want to be.
