Milford Covid Relief Fund Helps Nonprofits Weather the Pandemic

MILFORD - Thousands more dollars in grants have been awarded to qualified nonprofit and government organizations from the Milford Covid Relief Fund, (MCRF) administered by Greater Pike Community Foundation. The grants will help offset the decline in donations,

memberships and fundraising resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the latest round, $7,000 dollars in grants were equally distributed to Pike County Historical Society, Pike County Library, Pike County Humane Society, Milford Shade Tree Commission, Milford Fire Department, Milford Garden Club and the Delaware Valley Youth Sports League.

According to League President John Corrie the grant will help 300 kids from ages 3 to 12 continue playing softball and baseball. Corrie said, with donations down during the pandemic, help is crucial. “It’s super important. We’re at a stage where every dollar counts.” He added that, “We really appreciate what the Foundation did and will put it to good use.”

Milford Garden Club Executive Director Liz Steen said, “The grant will help sustain us.” The fundraising letters were not sent out due to the pandemic, and the annual Secret Garden Tour was canceled as were face-to-face meetings. “Our raffles at those meetings raise money that go into our scholarship fund,” she said. The grant will help online activities and the Garden Club will be able to continue decorating the urns in town, among other planned activities.

The Milford Covid Relief Fund was created in March to assist individuals, businesses and nonprofits in and near Milford Borough that have been adversely affected by the pandemic.

Through the generosity of donors, more than $50,000 has been raised and more than a dozen organizations have received grants so far. To help support the Milford Covid Relief Fund, tax-deductible donations can be made online at greaterpike.org, or a check payable to “GPCF-MCRF” can be mailed to Greater Pike Community Foundation, P.O. Box 992, Milford, PA 18337.

Since its founding in 2012, Greater Pike Community Foundation has become an important philanthropic leader in Pike County. Greater Pike was created to enable generous individuals, families and local businesses to maximize their charitable support through organized, targeted community philanthropy.
